Bolton Community Music School offers lessons at all levels on guitar and electric bass.
Beginners from age seven through adult receive thorough training in music fundamentals as related to their instrument—good posture and practice habits, good sound production, solid time feel. Note reading and music theory are introduced gradually as appropriate for the student’s learning style. As students advance they are guided in developing the stylistic vocabulary and repertoire to achieve their goals, whether these are to accompany songs with at home with family and friends, or to become involved with school, church, and community groups.
Experienced guitarists and bassists can receive the formal training that will help them move to the next level. Very often, self-taught players arrive at a plateau where they feel frustrated with the limitations of their technique and knowledge of music. When we teach them the intricacies of chord progressions and the relation between chords and melody, as applied to their instrument, whole new worlds of musical possibilities open. Students can explore previously unavailable styles, come up with new licks, and learn to rehearse their own musical groups more effectively.
Our guitar and bass teacher has years of experience teaching at the college and pre-college level. He is actively involved in college level auditions and adjudicates at the Berklee High School Jazz festival. If you (or your teenage child) are considering enrollment in a conservatory or college music program, he can prepare you for auditions, and for the proficiency tests in music theory and ear training. Many of his former students have not only successfully matriculated into top music programs, but many have also gone on to establish careers as professional performers.
If you want to play folk, rock, blues, jazz, salsa, gospel, country, or classical we can teach you the necessary skills.
