Piano Lessons: Beginning Piano Program
Piano instruction is based on the Suzuki method. Lesson format and curriculum follow the same basic formula as the Violin Program.
The Suzuki Method
The Suzuki method places a priority on ear training and attention to technique at an early stage. Instruction begins by ear and by rote. Note reading is introduced as the student gains some competence with the mechanics of producing sound and making music. An important aspect of the Suzuki method is parent participation. A parent attends lessons, takes notes, and learns how to help the child at home with that week’s assignment. Parental participation increases a child’s success ten-fold ! Not only do they learn quicker and more accurately, but they are much less likely to give up the instrument because their parents have shown that they care too.
Group Class for Piano
Group Class for piano is offered once every semester- a chance for all students to play for each other. Duet class is offered once/month for students in Book Two and beyond. Advancing piano students often learn the piano accompaniment and play with violin students for recitals.
