Music Lessons: Violin

Violin and Beginning Piano Instruction

The Suzuki method places a priority on ear training and attention to technique at an early stage. Instruction begins by ear and by rote. Note reading is introduced as the student gains some competence with the mechanics of producing sound and making music. An important aspect of the Suzuki method is parent participation. A parent attends lessons, takes notes, and learns how to help the child at home with that week’s assignment. Parental participation increases a child’s success ten-fold ! Not only do they learn quicker and more accurately, but they are much less likely to give up the instrument because their parents have shown that they care too.

Violin Lessons: Suzuki Violin Program

Violin instruction consists of weekly private lessons. Beginners (Book One) take half hour lessons. Students in Book Two /Three require more time for expansion of technique and complexity of pieces. They need a 45 minute lesson. Book 4 and up requires an hour lesson. Repertoire begins with the Suzuki School books and broadens out in to other repertoire , both classical and alternative , as the student develops musical interests. Alternative music often is fiddle or jazz.
Violinclass

Group Class
Group class is for students of like age and ability. They offer an opportunity meet and play common repertoire, music games, and learn music theory/reading. It is meant to be a fun time to learn to play with others (keep time, match intonation, etc) and in general enjoy music socially! This year we will meet two times/month for 45min/ hour. Group Class is free, an important part of the Suzuki Violin program. Parents need not attend. See Community Events for more on group class activities.
